The ECOPLAGE company chose to establish itself in France to develop its beach drainage process because of:
- its central geographical location,
- its varied types of coasts,
- the importance of its seaside tourism.
Initially it was necessary to adapt, develop and test the process with beaches subjected to the 3 great types of tides which exist in the world, all of which can be found in France:
- Macro-tidal beaches (tide higher than 6 m)
- Meso-tidal beaches (tide ranging between 1 and 6 m)
- Micro-tidal beaches (tide lower than 1m)
This led to the first three pilot installations in France, with Sables d'Olonne (1999), Villers on sea (2003) and Saint Raphaël (2004). These three installations were carefully tracked by the french federal government and were the object of a scientific fellow of a minimum of three years by Regional Universities.
Since 2007, with the results of these inital pilot projects having proven to be conclusive, ECOPLAGE has begun marketing the process throughout the world and developing industrial applications based on the purified filtered seawater production which come from this beach drainage process.
