ECOPLAGE : the optimal solution for sandy beaches

ECOPLAGE Mission statement : to provide municipalities, tourist operations and industry a complete turnkey installation and solution which combines the protection of beaches and the optimization of economic interests.

The Ecoplage® process is based on a well-known physical principle that governs the dynamic balance of sandy shorelines : when water brought by the waves can penetrate very quickly, more of the sediment  is left than is carried, thus the enlarging of the beach is favored.

The installation consists of placing drains underneath the beach, parallel to the coastline and connected to a pumping station. The drainage of the foreshore, which slows erosion and promotes the maintaining and enlarging of the beach.

The water produced by the system is perfectly filtered and can be used for :

-         feeding of desalination units by reverse osmosis,

-         fish and shellfish farming,

-         feeding of swimming pools or water basins,

-         the reoxygenation of marshes, bays, sounds or lagoons

-         production of heat or cold by heat pumps and exchangers

The principe of beach drainage

Draining the beach facilitates the process - naturally - of infiltration of water through the sand.

This promotes :

- The capture of sediments brought by wave flow

- The cohésion of sediment and thus its attachment

to the beach (being less transportable by the

   waves during reflux),

- The lowering of the water table, thus restricting the

transit of sand from beach to the sea.

The principle of production of filtered seawater

The primary purpose of the drainage process technology licensed through  Ecoplage® was initiated to provide the purified water supply for a marine aquarium before its outstanding "anti-erosion" virtues were yet known !

Indeed, by its action, the process uses sand from the beach as a natural filter, the system provides filtered water, "cleansed" of its impurities, which can be economically recovered to provide water for :

- the production of fresh water desalination,
- marine aquariums,
- thalassotherapy,
- fish and shellfish farming
- pools of seawater and aquatic recreation centers.
